Qualifications/Experience:

  • Experience in photonic integrated circuits, with work in areas such as design, characterization, fabrication processes, or packaging, and a broad understanding of the different platforms and the steps involved in developing PIC-based products.
  • Industrial experience in the development of PIC-based products is desirable.
  • High proficiency in English (minimum fluent B2/C1 level).
  • Highly proactive, with strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Engineering degree in Telecommunications, Microelectronics/RF, Optics/Photonics, Physics, or a related field.

Software Engineer

We are seeking an experienced software engineer to join our team to work on Quantum Key Distribution.

We expect you to help us continue leading the fast-paced market of Quantum Communications in Europe and beyond.

When you join LuxQuanta you will:

  • Develop high performance system programming QKD modules for system control, postprocessing, error correction and data analysis.
  • Develop inter-module communications through APIs and RPCs.
  • Define and implement databases for cryptographic key management and system metric visualization.
  • Collaborate with the team in the maintenance of build, testing and deployment pipelines, ensuring continuous delivery of the products.
  • Create comprehensive documentation that meets high standards for clarity, detail, and accuracy.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Software Engineer (+4 years of experience).
  • Knowledge of Linux environment at user level.
  • Proficiency in Rust or C/C++, with strong experience in systems programming.
  • Solid understanding of embedded systems and low-level programming concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clean, efficient, and maintainable code.
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and agile development methodologies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, with a proven track record of working effectively in team environments.
  • Proficiency in LaTeX. Scientific documentation writing is a plus.
  • Experience in data visualization is a plus.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, deliver training and documentation, and contribute to the continuous improvement of products and services.   • Collaborate with customers to understand their technical requirements and translate them into solutions.
  • Configure and deploy software applications to meet customer needs.
  • Provide technical support during the pre-sales, implementation, and post-sales phases.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot system and application issues, ensuring timely resolution, both remotely and at customer’s premises.
  • Develop and deliver technical presentations, proof of concepts (PoC), product demonstrations, and training sessions.
  • Work closely with internal teams, including R&D and product management, to ensure customer satisfaction, provide ongoing feedback to customers, and improve product and quality assuranceprocedures.
  • Document technical specifications, processes, and customer interactions for knowledge sharing.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in industry, technologies and trends.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering or Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in a similar role, preferably in an international environment.
  • Proficiency in programming or scripting languages such as Python, SQL, or Bash, along with familiarity with databases and APIs.
  • Knowledge in networking and network security (e.g., IPSec, Firewalls, MACSec) is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience in troubleshooting and resolving application or system-level issues.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and spoken in Spanish and English (knowledge of any additional EU language is a plus).

Become an Industrial PhD Student

A joint project between ICFO & LuxQuanta: 
FPGA-based hardware acceleration for Post Quantum Cryptography (PQC) and Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) emulation

About the Thesis

This PhD thesis is devoted to the development of FPGA based PQC codes, which will strengthen the classical communication channels of LuxQuanta’s QKD transceivers portfolio. The candidate will also develop an FPGA-based emulation of the optical transmission layer used for QKD, a versatile toolchain for optical simulation and verification.

You will have the unique opportunity to have as supervisors Dr. Valerio Pruneri (ICFO) and Dr. Pau Gómez Kabelka (LuxQuanta)

About FLIGHT Fellowship Program

FLIGHT is a 60-month MCSA COFUND doctoral program that aims at recruiting outstanding PhD students to carry out ambitious PhD-projects at ICFO in one of 3 tracks: Enhanced, Industrial or Clinical.

FLIGHT aims to foster career mobility of researchers beyond the academic sector. The program includes an extensive training program of multidisciplinary scientific workshops and training events where all Fellows are exposed to the interdisciplinary mix between academic research and industrial/clinical work.

PhD students in the Industrial and Clinical tracks will undertake research projects in collaboration with one of 14 Industrial and Clinical partners, from innovative start-ups to multinational companies and leading local hospitals, who will co-finance research projects, and provide co-supervision, extended secondments, research and training resources. In this case, the PhD student part of the Industrial track will work with LuxQuanta.
