LuxQuanta Awarded at the Nit de les Telecomunicacions i la Informàtica

Barcelona, April 2, 2025LuxQuanta has been awarded with the Salvà i Campillo Award for Entrepreneurship at the 30th edition of La Nit de les Telecomunicacions i la Informàtica, one of the most prestigious annual events in Catalonia’s digital and telecommunications sectors.

Organized by Telecos.cat and COEINF (Col·legi Oficial d’Enginyeria en Informàtica de Catalunya), the event took place at the Auditori de Barcelona and brought together more than 1,000 professionals, academics, and public officials, including: Albert Dalmau (Minister of the Presidency), Matías González (Secretary General of Telecommunications), and Jordi Valls (Deputy Mayor of Barcelona). The night celebrated the individuals, companies, and organizations leading the technological transformation of Catalonia, a region where the digital economy now represents 10% of GDP and is home to over 16,000 tech companies.

Recognition for Quantum Innovation Made in Catalonia

LuxQuanta received the award for its pioneering work in quantum cryptography. Founded in May 2021 as a spin-off from the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO), the company designs and develops Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) systems that integrate naturally into existing optical fiber networks, providing a robust layer of future-proof security. Since launching production in 2023, LuxQuanta has scaled rapidly, securing contracts with major telecom operators and generating million-euro revenues. This award acknowledges LuxQuanta’s role in positioning Catalonia at the forefront of quantum-secure communications in Europe.

Honorary Award
Josep Maria Martorell, Associate Director of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, for his key role in making the BSC a leading European research institution.

Special Jury Honorary Award
Mike Blackman, CEO of Integrated Systems Europe (ISE), for establishing Barcelona as a global hub for audiovisual technology by relocating ISE to the city in 2021.

Outstanding Personality Award (Salvà i Campillo)
Ana Pérez Neira, Director of the Telecommunications Technology Centre of Catalonia (CTTC), for her scientific contributions in satellite communications and her leadership in research and academia.

Outstanding CIO Award (Joan Clarke Award)
Rosa Maria Cortada, CIO at Oxfam Intermón, for over 30 years of digital innovation in the NGO and humanitarian sectors.

Alan Turing Award for Social Commitment
Club de Dones Politècniques, for their decade-long dedication to empowering women in STEM and reducing the gender gap in tech through mentoring, visibility, and community building.

Award for Communication and Outreach
Mariola Dinarès, journalist and creator of the science and tech show PopAp, for her humanistic and engaging approach to explaining technology to a broad audience.

Young Talent Award
Lucía Pallarés, a UAB student and double graduate in Computer and Telecommunications Engineering, who received a globally competitive IEEE doctoral fellowship for her research on high-precision positioning systems using 5G/6G and satellites.

Recognition from Telecos.Cat
Caterina Parals and Maria Isabel Gandia from the CSUC, for their work on the Anella Científica and CATNIX, two key infrastructures that connect Catalan universities and research centers globally.

Recognition from COEINF
Fernando Suárez, CIO of the City of Santiago de Compostela and President of Spain’s General Council of Professional Colleges in Computer Engineering, for his leadership in digital ethics, inclusion, and public innovation.
